Record Venison Donations, but 20 PA Counties Have No Local Drop-off

Pennsylvania hunters donated a record 294,844 pounds of venison from 8,382 deer through Hunters Sharing the Harvest in the 2025-26 seasons, about 1.2 million servings. But the drop-off network is uneven: 20 counties have no participating processor inside the county line, and in 14 of them the processors are there, they just aren't in the program.

We mapped all 110 HSH participating processors against every processor in the state. They sit in 47 counties. The 14 counties below have 50 processors between them and none enrolled. Another 6 counties (Carbon, Forest, Montour, Philadelphia, Potter and Wayne) have no processor of any kind in the directory.

The pattern is regional. 7 of the 14 gap counties are in the Southcentral Region, which has 68 processors but only 8 HSH participants, the lowest rate in the state. York County has 15 processors and 1 participant.

More from the data

  • Most HSH processors: Butler 8, Lancaster 8, Bradford 6 and Washington 5.
  • 12 participating processors say they won't accept donated deer from CWD Disease Management Areas. In DMAs, donated venison has to be tested for CWD before it can leave the processor (reported here).
  • 75 of the 110 HSH processors have no website or Facebook page, so call before you go.
  • HSH describes its own network as more than 110 processors across 56 counties. Our count places 110 processors in 47 counties; the difference is likely shops that take deer from neighboring counties.
